If any home or business owners around California still had lingering doubts about the benefits of window film, perhaps a recent action that took place nearly 3,000 miles away will convince them: the United States Congress has now passed HR 5771, a bill which, among other things, extends tax credits on energy efficiency improvements, specifically including window film.

Up and down California and specifically in sunny Los Angeles window tinting is an absolute necessity for any property owned or managed by financially savvy, environmentally sensitive people.

In the year 2015, LA will enjoy nearly 300 days with at least partial sunshine, and all that bright sun adds up to huge electricity bills as cooling costs soar. With their legislative action, Congress has incentivized the installation of window films that will in fact pay for themselves in time anyway.

When a property’s windows are treated with quality window tinting films, as much as 99.9% of the sun’s harmful UV rays are blocked, while more than 80% of the warming infrared rays are stopped cold. Window films still let plenty of natural light pass through, however, making these treatments a great choice for the Californian who wants to enjoy their state’s sunlight but doesn’t want to run the air conditioning system for months straight.

With the passage of the energy-related portions HR 5771, Congress signaled its long-term commitment to helping Americans improve the energy efficiency of their homes and businesses. In areas like Los Angeles where residents and professionals have long known the benefits of window tinting, this is a welcome step forward, and ideally one that will help people all around California and the rest of the states beyond establish and work toward greater energy efficiency in their construction and retrofitting activities in 2015 and beyond.

Few products offer the types of benefits as window film: once a property is fitted with window tinting films, there are both immediate benefits as well as long-lasting gains. Just as soon as a window film project is completed, the property in question will enjoy cooler days during the summer thanks to the reduced penetration of warming sunlight and warmer days during the winter thanks to the added insulation and heat reflection, which keeps warmer air inside when it’s cold out. The long-term benefits of window film are even more profound than these quick results, though: over time, properties treated with window film end up costing thousands less than similar yet untreated locations thanks to the dramatic savings on electric bills.

The passage of HR 5771 was of course as politically expedient as it was environmentally friendly or purely benevolent: every dollar a Los Angeles resident does not have to spend in annual HVAC costs, for example, may well be spent elsewhere rather than saved, helping to bolster the overall economy. However unlike with simple giving of rebates, the money the government specifically spends on covering portions of window film installation projects will end up leading to more and more cash saved for American families and businesses over the years, and might mean economic stimulation lasting for years to come as a result of some welcome assistance with energy efficient window film installation projects now in 2015.
